After lounging on the beach, get in touch with your physical side by exerting some energy playing tennis, walking the greenway, or getting in a workout. We’ve listed some places for Amelia Island tennis and that you can explore near our vacation rentals.

Egan’s Creek Greenway Trail

Visit this protected area of over 300 acres that runs north to south along Egan’s Creek in the middle of Amelia Island. The Greenway was opened for public use in the summer of 2000 as an undeveloped park for passive recreational use. Walk or bicycle the network of dirt trails and spot alligators, snakes, bobcats, and many birds from a distance. Benches and interpretive displays are located throughout the Greenway.

Location: The Greenway has 4 different entrances: behind the Atlantic Recreation Center at 2500 Atlantic Avenue, off Jasmine Street (entrance between Citrona Drive and Fletcher Avenue), Citrona Drive from the extensions of Beech Street and Hickory Street, and behind the Residence Inn at 2301 Sadler Road.

Ft. Clinch State Park Trails

This diverse 1,400-acre state park provides a striking backdrop for hiking and biking as you gaze up at its picturesque maritime hammocks with massive arching live oaks. History meets nature here with Fort Clinch (one of the most well-preserved 19th century fortifications in the country) sitting alongside gorgeous beaches, the burrows of gopher tortoises, idyllic fishing spots, and seashores perfect for shelling and shark-tooth hunting. Entry to the park is $6 per vehicle per day.

Cliff Drysdale Tennis Program at Racquet Park

Legends of tennis have played at Amelia Island Plantation, including the Williams sisters, Andre Agassi, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Join them by registering to play with the Cliff Drysdale Tennis program. It’s superior programming and professional instruction is located underneath the majestic oaks of Racquet Park. Guests will enjoy playing on any one of the 23 fast-dry clay courts.

Rod Gibson Tennis Services at City Courts

Looking for a court just to use for the day? The City of Fernandina Beach provides 4 hard surface lighted tennis courts for the public at Central Park, on the corner of South 13th Street and Atlantic Avenue. To access, payment of a $20 fee is required to the City for a key. If you’re looking for instruction, Rod Gibson Tennis Services offers tennis programs for children 4 and older of all playing levels, as well as adult clinics and events.

Location: Get gate key at Atlantic Recreation Center at 2500 Atlantic Avenue (open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

McArthur Family YMCA

First Coast YMCA’s McArthur Family location offers a 22,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility. This physical fitness center has premier cardio and strengthening equipment, group exercise studios, a heated, 8-lane, 25-yard outdoor pool that is open year-round, an indoor gymnasium with basketball and volleyball Courts, as well as a KidZone. Various day and speciality camps are offered, as well as swim lessons, youth sports, adult sports, and nutrition services.

Skateboarders, inline skaters, scooter riders and roller skaters are welcome to come enjoy a variety of ramps and other obstacles. Helmets are required. No bicycles allowed.
