Activities on Land

Looking to encourage some family camaraderie while visiting our beautiful island? Apart from the beach and water options, there are lots of Amelia Island activities on land for groups to enjoy. Play some putt-putt after dinner one evening or wake up with a sunrise horseback ride on the beach! On the rainy days, visit a one-of-a-kind museum together or take a trolley ride to historic sites. There are so many memorable excursions for couples and families on Amelia Island!

Amelia Island Board Rentals

Not a skateboarder? No need to be if you’re interested in exploring the island on an electric skateboard tour. Go sightseeing around American Beach, in the historic downtown of Fernandina Beach, or on the seashore with guides. Guides meet up with you at the specific tour launch site. Also, Arcimoto Rentals are now offered at Amelia Island Board Rentals. Cruise the island in these unique, 2-passenger, fully-electric FUV's (fun utility vehicle) with a range of 102 miles per charge and a top speed of 65 mph.

Amelia Island Horseback Riding

Meet experienced guides at Peters Point Beachfront Park for sunrise or sunset horseback ride on the beach. Day rides are also offered, and contact them if you’d like to plan a special occasion like a wedding proposal, anniversary ride, or birthday excursion.

Amelia Island Museum of History

One of the lesser known attractions on Amelia Island is our fantastic history museum! The Amelia Island Museum of History not only houses many fascinating exhibits focusing on the history of the local Timucuan Indians, the shrimping industry, and the growth of Nassau County, it also offers a smorgasbord of tours. As the first “spoken history museum” in the state, it emphasizes a story-telling tradition with tours that cater to many age levels and interests. Docent-led Eight Flags Tours take place daily at the museum and are included in the price of admission. Then there are walking tours at different island locations, including a Centre Street Tour, a “Murder, Mystery & Mayhem” tour, a Guilded Age Tour, an Architecture Tour, and even Ghost Tours.

Amelia Island Trolleys

Amelia Island Trolleys offers 1-hour tours of the Fernandina Beach Historic District, Old Towne and North Beach. Children are welcome and those aged 3 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased from the driver and major credit cards are accepted. In addition to the historic tours, the company provides private tours, ghost tours, wedding transportation and event transportation around Amelia Island.

American Beach Museum

Step back in time to discover the unique story of Florida's historic African-American beach. American Beach was founded in 1935 by Afro American Insurance Company President A..L Lewis as a place for "relaxation and recreation without intimidation and humiliation" during the Jim Crow era. The community had its' heyday in the 1940s and 50s with luminaries of Black America coming to visit and perform at the legendary Rendezvous club. Plan ahead since this museum is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. While at American Beach be sure to visit NaNa, the tallest dune in the state of Florida and a cornerstone of the fight to protect American Beach.

Gregor MacGregor's Mini Links & Drinks

Named after Scottish adventurer Gregor MacGregor who’s reputation paints him as quite a scalawag, this new Mini Links & Drinks venue offers a garden putt-putt course, a beachy bar, and a cool, comfy patio. It seeks to combine some of Florida’s favorite pastimes: a round of golf, a tasty drink, and beautiful scenery in the heart of historic Fernandina Beach.

Heron’s Cove Adventure Golf

Located in the Amelia Island Plantation Resort shops area, Heron’s Cove is a family-friendly miniature golf course named after Amelia Island's signature bird, the great blue heron. Enjoy playing 18 nautically themed holes underneath a beautiful canopy of live oaks - the perfect competition after some time spent splashing around beneath the sun.

Unleash your creative side! Visit this gallery housing works by over 50 local artists and then stick around for a class, workshop or other scheduled event.

Island Falls Adventure Golf

Challenge your family members to this miniature golf course with 18 and a half inventive holes surrounded by waterfalls, bridges and tunnels. Music plays throughout the course from the outdoor sound system. After a round of mini golf grab a soft drinks, slushie, candy, ice cream or light snack.

Kelly Seahorse Ranch

Visit this family-owned ranch, Florida’s ONLY ranch on the beach, where you will ride their private beach access trail to remote beaches on the south end. Their location is within the scenic Amelia Island State Park, a 200+ acre preserve at the southernmost point of the island where you can spot dolphins, shorebirds and other sea island wildlife. So saddle up and take a ride on one of their gentle, well-trained horses and enjoy the beautiful beaches of southern Amelia Island!

Fernandina Beach Pinball Museum

Located mid-island and just a 5-minute walk from the beach, this unique museum is perfect for a rainy day. There are more than 20 machines to play, all lovingly restored by the owner. Some are vintage and some are new, and that describes the ages of participants who come out to play too! Truly, all ages will enjoy this neat museum and if you go be sure to ask about a "try them" special, which is $10 for one hour of admission. For those who want to take their time, the unlimited daily admission is $14.

Maritime Museum of Amelia Island

The newest museum on island takes visitors into the world of sunken treasure. Come learn all about the Spanish galleons that disappeared below the waves centuries ago and how explorers have searched for the gold. Check out the collection of memorabilia from the US Navy, an artifact from the Titanic, and even a KGB diving suit. Often the guides are the actual treasure hunters with plenty of tales to tell.

Putt-Putt Amelia Island & Kona Ice

Families are invited to come to this old-fashioned seaside putt-putt course for a safe, clean, wholesome experience! Groups are their specialty so Putt-Putt also loves to host birthday parties, wedding rehearsal tournaments, business retreat tournaments, and more. What event can they plan for you?

Segway Marsh Tour

At the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, Segway Guided Tours are open to the public through the Nature Center. Participants can enjoy marshisde and creekside views as they tour along the novice-level paths to Drummond Point Park or Walker's Landing. A coached orientation is required prior to every tour. Riders must be 8 years old and at least 65 pounds. Reservations are required.
